Icicles

Temperature: 18 degrees
Time: Noon

Decided to take a road trip today. It does not take me long to get into the countryside...all of 12 minutes actually. But, today I decided to venture further up the road. Past Eagle Rock, past Iron Gate, Clifton Forge, Covington, Crows and into West Virginia. Yes, I ventured 60 miles. You can actually see the Allegheny Mountain Range from the highway as you are driving along Interstate 64. The Alleghenies are part of the Appalachian Mountain Range. It has a southwest-northeast orientation and runs for about 400 miles (640 km) from north-central Pennsylvania, through western Maryland and eastern West Virginia, to southwestern Virginia.

Enjoy the icicles.

Nice pictures... I love that ice formation. I feel like I'm inside an ice cave at the way you did the perspective of this... Brrrrr... absolutely fascinating.
Stay warm!

hey there michele
thanks for stopping by...i so enjoyed taking icicle pics.

hi di.
yep i was dressed for the weather. actually only thing that was cold were my hands. i have a pair of gloves i use for taking pics in the cold but...they don't keep my hands warm. so i wear one of those gloves and a warm(er) glove on my left hand...lol. no wind chill factor, thank goodness for that.

Nice shot. Too cold for my blood. Hence why I prefer to visit further north during the summers. :)

I could hug you for this---I'll be flying into West Virginia in just over a week's time! And I thought I was excited about it *before*, well you should see me now. Thank you for the beautiful photos from your wonderful part of the world!

What a wonderful road trip you took. As a girl I spent years with my family exploring and camping in those same areas you mentioned. Such beauty!

I have fond memories of breaking off icicles and licking them like a popcicle, too.

Yours is a lovely photo. You captured the magical glistening attributes quite well.

By the way, stop by my blog later because I have an award for you :)

All I know about the Appalachians is from a book by Bill Bryson "A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail" I loved the book.
You really captured how cold it can get in your neck of the woods.
