Skywatch Friday-View from a Southbound Train to Rome

Traveling south on an intercity train to Rome after a delightful day exploring the hill town of Orvieto, Italy I spotted this great cloud formation hovering over another hill top town. Orvieto is located on a 934 foot plateau overlooking the valley below.

It reminds me of an el Greco painting. Beautiful the way the storm clouds follow the contours of the hill with just that toutch of light to define the village.

That sure is an interesting cloud formation. I think this is the first Skywatch photo I've seen that was taken from a train. Really glad you shared this.

I love this shot. The clouds are so beautiful over the hill top town and I also like the way the bottom of the shot shows motion.

Very impressive sky! I wonder if such a sky promises rain. Thank you for your visit and comment. Yes from a satelite it must be visible that all the lights go out. I remember that a satelite with astronauts once came over Australia at a certain time and that everybody put the lights on at that time. And the astronauts could see it.

Thanks for the visit this week. That cloud sure looks ominous over the town. I've never been to Italy, or Europe for that matter. It is just so hard to leave our cabin on Powell Lake. - Margy

Looking at your picture, even before reading your text, I knew it was Italy.
I can't explain why, certainly the village at the top of the hill.
It's a wonderful picture that leave a huge place for the sky.
I like it.

Hi Erin and thanks for stopping by my blog...

Wow! That is funny that we both did "train" shots. This one is great and your window gave it a neat effect, I think. It kinda framed the beautiful cloud. Wow, Italy...how nice. :o)
