The View from the Other Side of the Mississippi River - Sky Watch Friday
This image of the Saint Louis Gateway Arch was taken on the metrolink from the Illinois side of the Mississippi River. Do click on it to enlarge. It is difficult to get a full on shot of the image as the structure is so large. Actually the Illinois side provides the best unobscured view(s) of the Arch whereas on the Missouri side you have the tall buildings encroaching on three sides and there is not enough room on the river side to capture the Arch, all 630 feet in its full glory. My apologies for the glare and dirty window of metrolink. For detailed information on the history of the Gateway Arch, please click through to my post Saint Louis-Gateway to the West .
For more skies from all around our wonderful world, please stop by and visit Sky Watch-Friday . It's a favorite stop of mine each week. I am sure you will enjoy photographs of the skies from around the world.
Great shot Erin, its always difficult to capture through a window, the arch makes an interesting subject and the sky is nice behind it. Thanks for sharing and dropping by my blog:)
Great shot. We were there last week and I wanted to get a shot from the Illinois side of the river but we had a lot to do and the weather was a little cold.
This is a fantastic picture. You are right about where to get the picture. I grew up in MO and visited St. Louis a lot in my younger days. The best view I ever got of the full arch was when I was driving in IL.
Great shot. I thought the dirty windows was a photo shop enhancement. It definitely gives it another dimension. Thanks for visiting Monastery Daily Photo.

What a beautiful view!
A great skyline and the arch seems to reach up into the beautiful sky like a rainbow. Excellent capture even with dirty windows.

Erin: What a neat look at the arch, thanks for sharing your trip.
The parabola looks great against the sky.
that sky is a bit fairy tale like against the city sky!

That is a lovely view, the arch does make for a pretty addition to the sky line.
Perfect shot, and I do not even see any dirt. The arch is just towering so high! Great skyline!
I've seen this on so many blogs now that I instantly recognise it as the icon of St Louis.
It looked LARGE!. I hope you don't have to climb it to get across...

Awesome shot and I really thought you had used a soft focus effect!
Lovely shot!
I think it worked out just fine even if you took it from a moving metro and through the window. Very enjoyable view.
