The View from the Other Side of the Mississippi River - Sky Watch Friday
This image of the Saint Louis Gateway Arch was taken on the metrolink from the Illinois side of the Mississippi River. Do click on it to enlarge. It is difficult to get a full on shot of the image as the structure is so large. Actually the Illinois side provides the best unobscured view(s) of the Arch whereas on the Missouri side you have the tall buildings encroaching on three sides and there is not enough room on the river side to capture the Arch, all 630 feet in its full glory. My apologies for the glare and dirty window of metrolink. For detailed information on the history of the Gateway Arch, please click through to my post Saint Louis-Gateway to the West .
For more skies from all around our wonderful world, please stop by and visit Sky Watch-Friday . It's a favorite stop of mine each week. I am sure you will enjoy photographs of the skies from around the world.
Enjoy and have a wonderful weekend everyone.

What a beautiful view!
A great skyline and the arch seems to reach up into the beautiful sky like a rainbow. Excellent capture even with dirty windows.
I love it! What a terrific shot! Great composition! And, as Gaelyn said, the dirty window doesn't spoil a thing!!

Stunning!
That's a great view of the sky and the city.
Beautiful shot, Erin. I took some pics of the Arch about five years ago, but they didn't have the awesome sky you've captured here. Great job!
What a fantastic view to have captured.... stunning
Oh I like this a lot, Erin, what a spectacular view!
Great shot Erin, its always difficult to capture through a window, the arch makes an interesting subject and the sky is nice behind it. Thanks for sharing and dropping by my blog:)

Delightful image of this famous landmark! It looks like you thoroughly enjoyed your visit to St Louis.
Great shot. We were there last week and I wanted to get a shot from the Illinois side of the river but we had a lot to do and the weather was a little cold.
Erin: What a neat look at the arch, thanks for sharing your trip.
The parabola looks great against the sky.
that sky is a bit fairy tale like against the city sky!

That is a lovely view, the arch does make for a pretty addition to the sky line.
Perfect shot, and I do not even see any dirt. The arch is just towering so high! Great skyline!
I've seen this on so many blogs now that I instantly recognise it as the icon of St Louis.
It looked LARGE!. I hope you don't have to climb it to get across...
Wow, an impressive structure and yet so unknown. thanks for sharing it with us.
Wow I love that gateway arch, so grand looking!
Here is my Sky Watch Friday, my very first entry!

That is one impressive Arch. Great shot from a train.
It's simply beautiful.
The giant arch gives the skyline something special.
Enjoy your weekend!
the inverted U makes all the difference! magnificent foto...
Wow that looks really very impressive !
wow! great capture
Thanks for the visit and comment on my float plane post. I've driven through town once and saw the arch. It is an amazing sight rising on the horizon.
This is a fantastic picture. You are right about where to get the picture. I grew up in MO and visited St. Louis a lot in my younger days. The best view I ever got of the full arch was when I was driving in IL.
That archway looks so dramatic against the sky...
Great shot..
Awesome shot and I really thought you had used a soft focus effect!
Lovely shot!
I think it worked out just fine even if you took it from a moving metro and through the window. Very enjoyable view.
Beautiful shot of the Arch! Very lovely.
Have a good weekend.

A great SWF contribution
Erin - The muted light just enriches the photo! Great capture of the famous arch.
This is beautiful !!.
Great shot. I thought the dirty windows was a photo shop enhancement. It definitely gives it another dimension. Thanks for visiting Monastery Daily Photo.
What an impressive arch! Beautiful composition on the photo, the light and soft shades of blue color. Great photo as always!
Beautiful capture! The light, the buildings, the arch, the sky. All are just perfect.
Very pretty! I love going up in the arch and looking around. :)
I love that photo, very dramatic.

Someday, I will be lucky enough to experience this view. This photo made my day!
Wonderfully composed! That could be a postcard!
A different take on a classic scene - well done!
Beautiful shot, fantastic view. The sky is very dramatic. Thanks for sharing
The St. Louis Gateway Arch is an elegant monument to westward expansion in the USA. Located on the banks of the Mississippi River in St. Louis, Missouri, the 630-foot tall stainless steel arch rises above the city skyline. The Jefferson National Expansion Memorial consists of the Gateway Arch, the Museum of Westward Expansion, and St. Louis' Old Courthouse.
