The View from the Other Side of the Mississippi River - Sky Watch Friday

This image of the Saint Louis Gateway Arch was taken on the metrolink from the Illinois side of the Mississippi River. Do click on it to enlarge.  It is difficult to get a full on shot of the image as the structure is so large.  Actually the Illinois side provides the best unobscured view(s) of the Arch whereas on the Missouri side you have the tall buildings encroaching on three sides and there is not enough room on the river side to capture the Arch, all 630 feet in its full glory. My apologies for the glare and dirty window of metrolink. For detailed information on the history of the Gateway Arch, please click through to my post Saint Louis-Gateway to the West .

For more skies from all around our wonderful world, please stop by and visit Sky Watch-Friday . It's a favorite stop of mine each week. I am sure you will enjoy photographs of the skies from around the world.

Enjoy and have a wonderful weekend everyone.

A great skyline and the arch seems to reach up into the beautiful sky like a rainbow. Excellent capture even with dirty windows.

Enjoy your weekend!

Beautiful shot, Erin. I took some pics of the Arch about five years ago, but they didn't have the awesome sky you've captured here. Great job!

Great shot. We were there last week and I wanted to get a shot from the Illinois side of the river but we had a lot to do and the weather was a little cold.

Thanks for the visit and comment on my float plane post. I've driven through town once and saw the arch. It is an amazing sight rising on the horizon.

This is a fantastic picture. You are right about where to get the picture. I grew up in MO and visited St. Louis a lot in my younger days. The best view I ever got of the full arch was when I was driving in IL.

The St. Louis Gateway Arch is an elegant monument to westward expansion in the USA. Located on the banks of the Mississippi River in St. Louis, Missouri, the 630-foot tall stainless steel arch rises above the city skyline. The Jefferson National Expansion Memorial consists of the Gateway Arch, the Museum of Westward Expansion, and St. Louis' Old Courthouse.
